A famous cofounder can get us to notice a drink. They cannot taste it for us.
That was our starting point with De Soi, the non-alcoholic beverage company cofounded by Katy Perry and distiller Morgan McLachlan. We tried it, and the taste felt different from what we were used to. New territory for our taste buds.
We’re not calling it an instant obsession. But it gave us something worth exploring beyond the celebrity connection.
De Soi makes sparkling non-alcoholic apéritifs, combining fruit, botanicals, and ingredients it markets as adaptogens. Think of an apéritif as a drink designed for slow sipping before dinner. De Soi brings that occasion into a ready-to-pour, non-alcoholic format. De Soi’s product guide
There’s a distiller behind the pop star
Perry shares the founding credit with Morgan McLachlan, whose distilling background brings a relevant skill to the project: building a drink around flavor and botanicals. Meet the cofounders
Their stated idea was to create something enjoyable for social occasions that fit around busy schedules and early mornings. That’s an understandable brief. Sometimes you want a drink that feels like part of the evening, even when alcohol isn’t on your agenda. The founders’ story
What’s behind the unfamiliar flavor?
For one example from the current lineup, Vino Violette, formerly called Purple Lune, combines fruit juices with date syrup, balsamic vinegar, and extracts including vanilla, gentian root, black tea, cocoa, and oak. It also contains L-theanine, reishi mushroom extract, and lion’s mane extract. This is a formulation example, rather than an identification of the variety we tasted. Vino Violette ingredients
The combination helps explain the approach. Fruit and date syrup contribute sweetness, vinegar adds acidity, and gentian brings bitterness. Tea, oak, and other botanical extracts give the recipe more directions to explore.
It’s a more elaborate flavor proposition than simply adding bubbles to juice. Whether you enjoy that complexity is a matter of taste.
The occasion makes sense. The wellness promises need perspective.
De Soi markets its functional ingredients for mood and social ease. Those are company claims. An ingredient list alone doesn’t establish that a can will make you calmer, sharper, or more sociable.
Botanical ingredients also deserve individual consideration. Memorial Sloan Kettering notes that reishi can interact with medications, including blood thinners. If you take medication, check the specific formula with your clinician. Reishi evidence and interactions
For us, the clearest appeal is having another non-alcoholic option for dinner, hosting, or a quiet evening. Sugar, calories, and caffeine vary by product, so check the actual can rather than assuming every De Soi drink has the same profile. Product FAQ
De Soi recommends serving it chilled, with citrus or herbs if you want to dress it up. That’s an easy invitation to experiment without assembling a home bar.
Katy Perry makes the introduction memorable. Whether De Soi earns another pour is something your own taste buds get to decide.
